Glenn Loewenthal serves on the Executive Committee as the Treasurer of the Civil Justice PAC. The Civil Justice PAC is the political arm of the Georgia Trial Lawyers Association. The PAC is a non-partisan organization with its primary objective of preserving and protection the civil justice system and access to the courts for all Georgians. Over the past few years, powerful big business and insurance companies have influenced Georgia’s elections and political climate, enabling legislation to pass that has seriously eroded the constitutional rights of all Georgia citizens to have their day in court and to allow a jury to determine compensation awards.
Glenn Loewenthal believes strongly in protecting the constitutional rights of Georgia citizens, and by serving on the Civil Justice PAC board, he is able to have a role in protecting Georgians access to the courts. The right to trial by jury is guaranteed by the United States Constitution. However, the Georgia legislature has voted in recent years to make it difficult, if not sometimes impossible, for Georgians to seek redress in courts. Restrictions such as a limit on awards takes away the rights of Georgians to have a jury of their peers determine what amounts to just compensation. Instead, the government has decided arbitrarily that a human life is only worth $350,000.00. Is that amount what you would consider just compensation for the loss of your spouse, child or parents? Limits to jury awards do nothing to limit frivolous lawsuits, they only limit the amount of money that corporations and insurance companies have to pay on the most serious and catastrophic cases of injury and death.
The Civil Justice PAC of the Georgia Trial Lawyers Association works constantly with legislators from both parties by educating them on the disastrous effects that so called “tort reform” has on real Georgians, their constituents. The efforts of the Civil Justice PAC has resulted in numerous pieces of legislation being passed in recent years that protects the rights of Georgians, as well as keeping legislation from being passed that would further take away the rights and protections of Georgia citizens.
Besides serving on the Board of Directors and the Executive Committee of the Civil Justice PAC, Glenn Loewenthal is also a Champion level member of the PAC and is committed to remaining a Champion level member in the future to help ensure the future protection of Georgia citizens.
